Late Friday, a coup in Turkey began with the military releasing a statement, saying they had seized control of the country to " reinstall the constitutional order....for law and order to be reinstated".

The coup was a failed attempt, after a night of explosions and gunfire that rocked the main city Istanbul and the capital Ankara.

The coup began to crumble after Turks answered the President of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan's call to support him by going to the streets in Istanbul and Ankara and waving their flags.

The President, Recep Tayyip Erdogan told the nation Saturday that the attempted military coup was over and the government was in charge.

The Prime Minister, Binali Yildirim said:
At least 161 people died. 1,440 people were injured in the chaos across the country and more than 2,800 have been detained.
